FAQ's

Are all practices & competitions mandatory?

On our teams everyone is equally important.  Each person has a specified job and without each person it is hard to prepare the team successfully.  If we allow everyone 4 absences that could make for 120 practice sessions that are incomplete.  That would be every practice in a full season.   We also understand the importance of family and time spent on family vacations.  We do have 2 weeks in the summer that we cancel all cheer practices.  When possible, most families take this opportunity to plan their trips.  If those weeks are not possible we just ask that you notify the coaches in advance of your plans and we will do our best to work around them.

All competitions are mandatory.  We do not believe in "hiding" athletes or giving them unimportant parts.  Every athlete has their individual strenghts and is given a part in the routine to correspond to their individual ability.  Therefore, if one person is absent the routine cannot go on.  In very extreme situations, we are able to train a substitute if absolutely needed.  These situations must be addressed prior to tryouts.

Why do I need to sign a contract?

Contracts benefit the continuity of the team.  We understand you are not only investing your money in our program but a great amount of time as well.  The contract outlines a set of standards that everyone agrees to.  Without a set of standards everyone has their own expectations and level of commitment.  When one person decides to leave a team a great amount of your practice time is spent on rearranging the routine to accommodate that absence.  Our team practices are dedicated on moving forward not just reorganizing.  As with any contract it may be cancelled for certain reasons.  Please contact coach Heather to discuss this in further detail.

Can I cheer for both School Cheerleading & Ohio Extreme?

Please understand that we are one of the largest supporters of school athletics.  We have helped to re-establish many of the school cheerleading programs in our area.  Coach Heather is currently the head coach at Avon High School and has led them to several conference and national titles at the High School level while still keeping their focus on their main priority - supporting the athletic teams.  In addition, Tumbles & Cheers is the training facility for several area schools including Westlake High, North Olmsted High and Admiral King.  We understand the benefits of school cheerleading as all of us were also involved in this activity.

We would love for you to cheer at both school and in the All-Star program.  There are many things to factor to consider.  Ohio Extreme  is a very competitive program that has a goal of making the best cheerleaders in the nation.  We would love to see our kids in every college program in the country.  In order to do that, we must be successful.  Success in all-star cheerleading requires full participation.   Ohio Extreme would love for the schools to view cheerleading as a legitimate activity and support their students that excel in this activity.  Schools do not offer the training or attention that all-star programs do, so therefore, they must support those programs that help their kids to stand out nationally.  If your school understands the responsibility of all-star cheerleading and is willing to support you by working with Ohio Extreme, you can easily do both.

Which is better school cheerleading or All Stars?

This depends on what you want to get out of cheerleading.  School cheerleading requires more time commitments than all-star.  The time spent at school cheerleading is usually not focused on skills.  Schools primary function is to support the athletic program and leading the crowd effectively.  The focus on All Star cheerleading is pushing your individual skill levels including tumbling & stunting.  Without basic knowledge and understanding of crowd leading techniques, many major universities will look you over.  Most schools also do not employ trained cheerleading coaches that can teach you new tumbling and stunting techniques needed for college.  On the other hand, All-Star cheerleading is focused totally on skill building.  Your skill level will increase as you go through the program.  All-Star cheerleading is also focused on getting the squads and individuals state and national exposure that is not offered in the school environment.  All-Star coaches are highly trained and qualified to teach you every aspect of the sport.  These programs offer very different sides of cheerleading.  In our opinion, both High School Cheerleading and All Stars are important for very different reasons.  We have several programs in the area that are committed to our same ideal and have made it possible to do both with minimal conflicts.

Which will prepare me more for college cheerleading?

This is the simplest of all of the questions.  All-star cheerleaders have more skill training and more experience than any school program.  In many cases you will be competing with other cheerleaders for college positions that have been in All-Star cheerleading since in kindergarten.  Training time and trained coaches are elements that make you more successful.  All-Star cheerleading is for the more serious cheerleaders.  Those that wish to cheer in college, if they have to choose, should choose All-Stars.

I want to do both - Now what?

It is very important for schools to understand All-Star cheerleading.  If they understand the practice schedules and commitments early, it is easier for them to work out their schedules with Ohio Extreme.  Our schedules are set a year in advance so in most cases you can discuss your commitments with your school coaches prior to tryouts.  In addition, we have pushed our competition schedule back to ensure that football season is over to eliminate any game conflicts.  It is also important for schools to realize that All-Star cheerleading is responsible for many college scholarships to great institutions.  It would be against the primary function of any school to prohibit the ability for any student to receive such a prize.  Please explain to the administration the conflict and allow them to advise you on the steps to take in order to work the scheduling out.  Please also explain to the school administration that Ohio Extreme is in support of their programs and will be willing to discuss and work out a plan that benefits both programs.
